It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Selectboard Chair Nelson Tift.
Nelson was a dedicated municipal officer for the Town of Wallingford for decades in a variety of roles, most notably as Selectboard Chair and First Constable.
Long after retiring his badge, Nelson spent endless hours in his vehicle patrolling the local roads to ensure citizen safety. Each year, Nelson donated his annual Selectboard salary for the good of the community. It was used to pay for road crew chainsaws, gutters on the Elfin Lake Concession stand, Scholarships for youngsters to attend Wallingford’s summer camp, and many other notable causes.
His historical knowledge of the Town was invaluable at meetings and preparing annual municipal budgets. He listened to citizens’ concerns and genuinely tried to find the best solutions. Nelson was not afraid to speak his mind, but he was also willing to listen with an open ear.
Sincere condolences to his family, friends and the citizens of Wallingford. He will be missed.
