Wallingford Conservation Commission Minutes*

*These are unofficial Minutes subject to the approval at the next regular meeting.

 September 27, 2010

Attendees:  Debbie Scranton, Shannon Pytlik, Jill Burkett, Ralph Nimtz, Carol Macleod, Kim Royar, David Klock

Welcome to new members Jill Bliss (formally Burkett) and Josh Gilman

Updates:

A.                 Rain garden signs – Shannon emailed examples to the group.  We approved 2’ X 3’ colored signage @ $300.00 by Greenscreen.  Shannon will order.  Cost will be covered by the grant and includes the angled post.

B.                 Shannon found metal markers @ 100 for $100.00 in 4 colors.  Group agreed that Shannon should order 200 for $200.00 plus shipping

C.                 Tree identification markers:  So far 13 different trees have been identified (10” X 12” signs).   Carol will purchase enough for 25 tree markers.  Should also have a brochure box made.

D.                 Trail markers are needed to mark the walking paths.  Naming of the trails (i.e. Fisherman’s Way, Vulture View) needs to be done before signs can be made.

E.                 Kiosk: Look into applicability of LEXAN for kiosk covering:  ¼” X 48” X 48” =$128.52. Ralph has already purchased approximately half of the materials and will purchase the rest soon.  Outreach materials can be laminated and then covered with the Lexan (instead of plexiglass).

F.                  Weed filter fabric:  Carol has the weed filter fabric from bridge to basket ball court. Cost $193.00

G.                 Consider purchasing a laminator

H.                Shannon worked up a budget (approximately $2,800).  We may want to have Tony review the budget to make sure it is in line with the real costs.  Shannon will try to get the grant amended so we could use the $1,500 that was originally budgeted for labor for more materials.  Carol will go see Joyce and let her know that to date we think we have spent $350 of the grant budget.  She will then check with Tony.

I.                    Carol is still wondering whether the Selectboard will give us permission to use a portion of the $5,000 that was voted on at town meeting in 2004 for this project.

J.                  Jill will ask Roy Morgan whether he can bring his backhoe to the pit and help dig holes for the kiosks and sign posts. Anyone who can, should meet at the beach at 10:00 am to stake kiosk locations and trail naming. Carol will get the key to the gate.

New Business:  All other WCC programs.  Put off until next meeting.

Adjourn at 8:00 p.m.

Debbie Scranton
