Wallingford Conservation Commission Minutes*

*These are unofficial Minutes subject to the approval at the next regular meeting.

November 28, 2011

Present:  Shannon Pytlik and Carol Macleod (co-chairs of meeting), Ann Tiplady, Marc Pramuk, Dave Klock, Josh Gilman, and Debbie Scranton (recording Secretary)

A.                 Call to order at 6:40  PM, Attendance taken.

B.                 Approval of October 24, 2011 minutes (Read aloud by C. Macleod, with only change being that completion date for grant is January 10, not  February 10, 2012).

C.                 Old Business

1.     Review grant work plan, budget, and deliverables.

Grant was for $8‚500 with $1000 from town, total of $9‚500. We have spent  roughly $2‚498 mostly for materials from Rotella’s because much of the cost was from free labor provided by the WCC.

2.      Volunteer hours for this grant to be sent to Carol.  (Debbie will try to ascertain dates, Carol will make a form).

3.      Shannon will see if grant can be extended, requested extension to 05/30/12.  Most of project is already completed.  Suggestions for additional work with $6‚000 remaining from grant include:

Additional signage

            Trench area

Birds at bog, meadow, and lake areas

Extension of boardwalk, including 2” toe-kick siderails

Additional work on refining trails, maintenance

Benches (likely only materials would be covered, not completed benches)

Sand texture epoxy for boardwalk

Stockpile of cedar posts and spikes for trail  reinforcement

Brochures

4.      Town Budget

WCC did not use the $1‚000 which accompanied the $8‚500 grant because of volunteer work performed by the WCC.  Will ask that this money go toward benches, brochures (not covered under the grant). Will request $1‚000 rather than the usual $500 from the town.  The remaining $543.01 would go toward tools (hazel hoes for trail work), widening the surpac in two areas (by the beach parking area,  recreation area) to cure damage from Tropical Storm Irene in August, 2011), and for Winter Fun Day.  The town may  use Willis Consulting for reclamation of the entire former Pit area, with hopefully one round of input from both the Recreation Committee and the WCC.

Carol will check with Roaring Brook re: making benches. Shannon is going to request an extension of the grant and moving more funds under ‘supplies’.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:43 P.M.

Respectfully submitted by Debbie Scranton
