The Pit:
The Pit subcommittee met for the second time tonight. First meeting was
on site on
September 9, 2009. The group investigated excavating
a 12 foot square area to allow biking access to the bridge.
In two weeks sub-committee members will push back the rocks along the
road and excavate some of the gravel to enlarge the area along the road for
parking. They have brainstormed
lists of things to do: grant
writing, field trips to other sites, and hosting a geologist to investigate an
interesting geologic structure in the pit. The Conservation Commission intends
to begin marking/building trails next spring. Carol will contact Michael Smith
to try to organize a meeting between Michael and some members of the WCC at
Pine Hill
Park
on October 10th at 10:00
to look at trail layout. Carol will
email the group to confirm. She will
also call Doug Reeves who works for the USFS to see if he is interested in
helping with the trail construction/marking at the pit. Ralph will email group
if he intends to take a walk in “Stone bog” in the next couple of weeks.
Next spring we should consider a pit appreciation day with a tour of the
bog, trees, birds, bar-b-que, etc.

a regular light bulb to trade. Tim and Shannon will attend the Button Up

Kim needs to send David photos of the kiosk (oops—sorry David).
Garden Time sells picnic tables for $200.00.

their name on it.

Energy
Summit
: Tim attended the energy summit in Rutland.
Attendees included Efficiency Vermont, BROC, Neighborworks, CVPS, contractors,
and other people associated with energy issues to formulate an energy plan for
Rutland
County. The group brainstormed ideas and agreed to work towards trying to make 10% of
the buildings 10% more efficient by 2010 (10/10/10
plan). They plan to meet again in a
couple of weeks. Tim is on the next Selectboard meeting agenda to propose that
he be named Energy Chair so he can establish an energy committee.
