Wallingford Conservation Commission Minutes*

*These are unofficial Minutes subject to the approval at the next regular meeting.

 November 22, 2010

1.      Present:  C. Macleod, R. Nimtz, S. Pytlik, D. Klock

Ca Called to order at 6:45 pm.

2.      Minutes from October 25, 2010 approved with one correction.  Meeting was called to order at 6:43 pm.

3.      New grant application:  Selectboard approved grant for $9500 including $1000 to come from Wallingford.  Grant is due December 4, 2010.  Shannon will review the grant proposal and make additions.  Grant will be submitted to the WCC for review prior to submission.  It was suggested that even if we do not get the grant that we ask permission from the Prudential Committee to clean up the area near the bog.  Rutland Correctional prisoners can be used to do the clean-up at minimal cost.

4.      Old Grant.  There is approximately $1700 remaining.  We are estimating $1100 for trail signs that will be constructed by Green Screen Graphics.  Approximately $239 was used for materials for this work that came out of the WCC 2009-10 budget leaving us with approximately $839 that we can still use.  Ralph will get more supplies for a 3rd kiosk to be placed at the Recreation Field and materials to build bird houses and a small bridge leading off of the Bog Walk.  Estimate for these supplies is approximately $750.00.  Ralph will call Keith Shelvey for permission to erect the 3rd kiosk.  Shannon will have 2’x3’ maps printed for the kiosks.  The Rain Garden sign is ready to be installed.  Shannon will come up with a sign for the eskar(sp).  Ralph suggested that Marlene Dawson may be able to help with information.  Steve Pytlik will prepare additional tree identification information.  We will reprint the “Quaking Aspen” sign.   WORK DATE SCHEDULED FOR 10AM SUNDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2010 (weather permitting) to dig additional holes for tree id signs.  Bring post-hole diggers.  Trail markers will be placed on the Rim Trail.  We will also identify exact area for placement of little bridge and determine what supplies are required.

5.      WCC  would like to more involved in planning for the slope reclamation at Stone Meadow.  It was recommended that the WCC get on the agenda for a Selectboard meeting to not only give them an update on what we have done and what we wish to do in the next year but to hear what their plans are for the reclamation of the slope.  Carol will ask Julie or Joyce for a copy of the engineering proposal.

.       Green Up Day.  Jillian was not present, but is hopefully thinking about the “Golden Egg” hunt.  Ralph has ordered the bags.  The Town has contributed $135.00.  Ralph will call Peter Upton to make sure we can borrow his sign and to request his help for the day.

7.       We need new members.  Put your thinking caps on and suggest individuals that would add to the committee’s efforts.

8.       Meeting was adjourned at 7:52 pm.  The next meeting is scheduled for December 27th at 6:30.  Can everyone make this meeting?
