Wallingford
Conservation Commission Minutes*
*These are
unofficial Minutes subject to the approval at the next regular meeting.
June 29, 2009
Attendees:
Tim Chila, Carol Macleod,
Shannon Pytlik
, Debbie Scranton, Ralph Nimtz, Peter Upton, Ann Miller, David Klock, Kim Royar
The WCC met with members of the Recreation Committee at
6:30 pm regarding planning for the reclamation of “the pit”.
Next meeting for subcommittee members will be at the site on July 9th
at 6:00 pm.
Call to order:
7:20 pm
Approval of minutes
Old Business:
The WCC suggests that the name of “the pit” be changed to “Stone
Meadow”. The proposed name change is derived from the original donors of the
property whose name was Stone.
Walking Brochures:
Joyce printed up 200 copies of the walking brochure (thank you). Carol
delivered some to the Rutland Chamber of Commerce and they intend to distribute
copies to the Mall, the train station, the visitor’s center on route 7 in
Rutland
, and the Chamber of Commerce office. Tim still intends to put a list of
distribution sites together with committee assignments regarding maintenance
responsibility.
Shannon
will put 10 brochures at the daycare. There
are a total of 70 brochures remaining. David
will check out the cost of printing more.
Kiosks:
Kim has access to a couple of kiosks that will require some repair work.
She will deliver a kiosk to David’s so it can be reviewed and repaired
by WCC members and possibly erected at the pit and/or at the library.
Town Plan/Planning
Commission: Tim sent an email to
John West offering our help at the Wallingford Day (July 18th)
celebration. Most members are
willing to put in a one hour shift distributing questionnaires.
Shannon
will email John to find out when we should be there and how long we are needed.
Tim will then send an email to commission members so we can commit to a
time slot.
Shannon
will also attend the July 13th planning commission meeting and offer
our help on the natural resources section of the plan. The
planning commission has not yet developed the survey. It is likely that other towns have paid professional consultants to
develop surveys in anticipation of a town planning effort. It would make sense to review some surveys from other towns and perhaps
use them as a basis for ours. Shannon will contact the
Vermont
league of Cities and Towns and Kim will contact Jens for examples.
Energy Group:
Anne Tally will lead a discussion of the book Low
Carbon Diet to Lose 5000 pounds.
Kim thinks Anna may have settled on July 16th for the first
meeting but will email her to confirm.
Tim followed up with Bob Murphy from Efficiency Vermont and
invited him to come speak in the 2nd week of September.
Ken Welch is also interested in participating on the energy committee and
would provide valuable expertise regarding the availability of energy subsidies
and grants. The Regional Planning Commission’s energy committee will be
meeting on July 21st. Tim
is planning to attend.
Presentations:
September: Bob Murphy; October or November:
Ralph will talk to Rutland Audubon to see if they are interested in
co-sponsoring a talk with Bernd Heinrich.
New
Business:
AVCC VT:
Association of Vermont
Conservation Commissions. Carol
moved to pay $50.00 for the annual membership fee.
It was seconded by Anne and approved by the group. Anne has agreed to be
the contact person.
Adjourned on 8:10 p.m.
Next meeting: August
24, 2009 at 7:00.
Respectfully submitted,
Kim Blodgett |
