Wallingford Conservation Commission Minutes*

*These are unofficial Minutes subject to the approval at the next regular meeting.

 July 25, 2011

Present:  Carol Macleod, Shannon Pytlik, Ann Tiplady, Ralph Nimtz, David Klock

Meeting called to order at 6:45 p.m.

1.      Minutes from the June meeting were unanimously approved.

2.       Old Business.

a.       VYCC did an excellent job on the new and main trail for the amount of time they had.

b.      Surpac and work days.  Flyers will be printed and posted around town in hopes to attract volunteers.  We will request that Julie email flyers to the Town’s email list.  (Copy of flyer attached.)  The first work day is Sat. August 6th.  WCC will concentrate on moving surpac to cover empty space between beach and main trail and basketball court to bridge.  (The beach to main trail path was connected and the basketball court to bridge is about 40% complete.  Moving  the surpac from the pit to the basketball court requires a lot of manual hauling of material via wheel barrow.  If possible, we request that the Selectboard ask the Road Crew to move some of the surepac from the beach area to the Basketball court.)

c.       Benches.  For a future project WCC would like to construct at least 2 benches – one for the top of Rim Trail and one for the new ACC trail.  Shannon will email photos of benches at Pine Hill.

d.      Boardwalk construction and trash pick-up.  We will meet at Stone Meadow at 10 am Sunday August 14 to review bog area and trash area.  Ralph needs to experiment with possibilities for boardwalk construction.  Once we have looked at the area for trash removal, we will draw up a map and give the Prudential Committee information on our plans, and, if necessary request their approval for this endeavor.  (We are 90% sure that the trash resides on Town lands but removal may require use of Prudential Committee land.)

e.      250th.  We need to have the laminated trail maps for that day.  WCC will come up with a schedule of time assignments for its members.  There will be no treasure hunt.

f.        Wallingford Walks brochure.  We need to add an insert for Stone Meadow containing trail maps and information about the Area.

g.       New ADA trail needs a name.  So far suggested names include “Long Trail” and “Switchback”.

3.        Meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
