Wallingford
Conservation Commission Minutes*
*These are
unofficial Minutes subject to the approval at the next regular meeting.
January 28, 2008
Attendees:
Shannon Pytlik, David Klock, Carol Macleod, Ralph Nimtz, Debbie
Scranton, Kim Royar
Guests: Tom Phillips, Ann Miller
1.) Meeting called to order
7:10 p.m.
2.) Approval of minutes and agenda
3.) Tom Phillips:
Tom is optimistic about receiving an Act 250 permit for the expansion of
the pit (hearing February 14). Tom
is also on the recreation commission. As such he would like to form a committee
to determine what to do with “the pit” should they get a permit.
So far, members may include: Lisa
Marchinkowski, Peter Upton, and Tom Phillips.
Debbie gave historical background regarding WCC involvement in the pit
and our concerns about the water table and the fact that there was water in the
pit last May and June. Tom says that according to the engineering report, the
water table is 14 feet below the surface of the pit.
If the project receives an Act 250 permit,
Tom will donate $50,000.00 towards reclamation.
In addition, Lisa is trying to secure another $50,000.00
via a grant. The Conservation
Commission thinks that protection of the natural resources in and around the pit
should be the highest priority for reclamation.
The recreational fields etc are secondary.
Which committee should take the lead on pit
reclamation? The WCC is happy to
work with the recreation committee but is not clear at this time what the role
of the WCC should be.
4.)Wallingford Walks Map: Tim is absent
tonight so we will discuss again at the next meeting.
