Wallingford Energy Committee Minutes*

*These are unofficial Minutes subject to the approval at the next regular meeting.

December 1, 2009

Chair Tim Chila called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.

In the absence of Doug Blodgett, Secretary, Joyce took the minutes.

Roll call included Tim, Joyce Barbieri, Jay White, Bert Jones, Tony Esposito, Ralph Nimtz, Ken Welch, and Ed Safford.

The minutes of the November meeting and agenda for this meeting were approved.

Joyce moved to elect Bert as Treasurer, it was seconded by Tony and so voted.

It was agreed upon to forgo a vice chair at this time.

Energy inventories were reviewed. Joyce read South Wallingford Grange, Town Hall and Town garage figures.

Tim reported the school is already in the process of an energy audit.

Jay still needs to measure the fire station. He did however report on the Masonic Hall and will also be checking on the Rotary and Library with Bert.

Ken spoke with the sewer plant operator Mark Bresnick about changing out motors. It was agreed that Ken would talk to chief sewer plant operator John West to see about an audit there.

Doug (absent) is checking the E. Wallingford Fire Station.

Talk about the possibility of mailing the newsletter was discussed.

The need to "button up" the town garage was talked about.

Tim is looking into adding a version of the Town of Thetford's energy plan to our plan. He hasn't heard back about the Vermont Community Energy Mobilization Project yet. He also emphasized about the importance of reading "Low Carbon Diet" and the need to reduce our carbon footprint. He will be attending the VECAN meeting on December 5th and hopes to come back with a lot of great ideas for us to utilize.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant preliminary application due December 8th was discussed. Ralph will talk to Julie about applying for the attic insulation and the material to double up the 2x4's in the attic. Joyce will talk to Maureen (in the fire district office) about an energy audit for the streetlights and replacement of the bulbs for more energy efficient ones.

Tim shared information on several brochures he has received, one being the Clean Energy Guide Book put out by VPIRG that includes information about energy grants both state and federal.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10. We will meet again on January 5th at 6:30.

Joyce Barbieri, Acting Secretary
