Attendance:
Sue Duskiewicz, Tom Phillips, Guests: Charlie
Angel, Kim Phillips Meeting called to
order at Minutes: Keith made a motion
to approve the minutes of Recreation Committee
Vacancy: No one has yet
expressed interest in filling the vacancy. There was discussion
that lifeguards are not always doing their duties.
Sue stated that she does not want to use a lifeguard chair.
Discussion followed about using a chair with a flag to designate it
as a lifeguard chair. The
chair should also be marked as a lifeguard chair.
It is important that people know who to go to if they need help.
The lifeguards should also wear lifeguard shirts.
The lifeguards will put the flag up when they are on duty and need
to stay in a designated area. Lifeguard
shirts should also be budgeted into the account each year.
Sue indicated that she was not sure if there was money available to
purchase shirts, a flag, and a lifeguard sign. Tom made a motion to
take $100 from the recreation budge to purchase shirts, a flag, and a sign
for the chair. Motion was
seconded. Motion passed
unanimously. Recreation Policies:
The committee discussed policies for using the fields and the lake.
Lisa indicated that she is frustrated with wanting more
recreational facilities, yet we're making it more and more difficult to
use the areas. The committee
needs policies in writing regarding what is required.
The policies need to be consistent for everyone.
Sue stated that Wallingford Daycare accesses the lake for the
season for the cost of one family pass.
Tapestry and Danby pay $1.50 per child per visit.
Pathways Program buys a $60 pass.
Group use of the facilities needs to be fair.
Keith suggested that Keith also asked if
Wallingford Daycare is bringing children to the cemetery, recreation field
and lake, are we going to require them to submit an insurance policy?
The committee would like to ask Mike Cange and Wendy Savery from
Wallingford Daycare to the next meeting. Sue indicated that
she has never been paid before the lake opens and after it closes, but she
is going to have to be paid for this time. Kim Phillips brought
up that at the lake today a car was backing into the area to pick up
people in wheelchairs. No one
was watching the car back down or into the area, and she was concerned
that there were children very close to the car.
Sue said she would follow up on this. Keith has gotten a
price on fencing to go between the parking lot and playground at the
recreation field. However, he
did not have the quote with him. There was discussion
regarding the Phillips' pit property.
Tom indicated that if the townspeople do not support this project,
it will cost the town a million dollars to fill the bank back in.
Next meeting will be
